"Welcome to the Show" (2023) is the debut EP by Finnish heavy rock band Slixxx. Prioritizing catchy melodies, rockin' riffs and powerful vocals, Slixxx packs a serious rock'n'roll wallop with this 5-track album.
The EP begins with the instrumental "The Stage is Set", which is just a short intro to wire the listener to the right mood. Things truly kick off with "Welcome to the Show" - a fitting opening for the album. The chorus of this song is extremely catchy, making it a perfect number for live shows to get the audience involved.
"Bottle of Dom" has everything a great rock song needs - energetic riffs combined with a simple yet interesting song structure, not to mention the banger chorus. The track includes a calmer acoustic part, foreshadowing the fully acoustic nature of the following track "Raise Your Voice", which is slower in tempo. The last song "Where I Belong" is also a bit slower, but includes more power in the chorus. This power-ballad is a fitting way to finish the EP.
Overall, the EP works quite well, although including two slower tracks in such a short EP is an interesting choise. The inclusion of another rocking banger, like their previous single "X Marks The Misery" could have made for a better album structurally.Either way, it is clear that all the members are well-versed in their instruments and enjoy rocking them out. The vocalist Blaze's performance, however, is what gives the band its unique flair through his eclectic use of high notes. Spanning multiple octaves, one is left to wonder... Could a few more high notes have been included?
